Busy Week on the virtual scene

Its been a busy week in virtual modland, first off I went on Tuesday to the AAi no sim issues this week to listen to Claire Eglund deliver a nice mod set to the AAi regulars. Claire played some marvelous tunes that had a lot of "TUNE" typing scrolling across the chat lines which is always a good sign. I had a great time, listening to some cool tunes hearing some funny lines and generally just hanging out.

In reality I might be camped next to the radiator whinging about a chest infection, coughing and slurping hot tea but in the virtual world I'm feeling groovy and strutting my stuff. Tuesdays at the AAi is well established as a cool mod venue due to Eden and Kims hard work and Claire is doing a great job to continue with the mod theme. If your bored on a Tuesday, love the sixties get over there Claire's DJing will not disappoint and you'll meet a friendly if somewhat odd crowd of mods and pseudo mods having a laugh.

Wednesday night is generally a non-virtual evening but there was bugger all on the telly so I thought I would log on and see what was happening. There was a sixties beat at the Acroplys and sweet soul at the Soulsville club; but, I opted for a non mod night at the AAi. There was still plenty of mod fans at the club listening to Graz play some tunes, and to keep us happy he chucked us the odd bone of mod. Was a funny night lots of silly chat and general music gossip, easy to chill too. AAi regulars were there aplenty: DJ Claire getting into the groove alongside David Essex, oh its Graz, prowling in the seating area was Scotney Sean, whilst mod designer and DJ Eden was swinging her hipster and get groovy; Shauna of the short, short skirt was there she think I have narcism issues [err did I spell that correctly, I was too busy checking how cool I look in the snaps] wherever did she get that notion? And, also there were lord and lady mod Aston and Dugi doing their thang! Other Thom and Meri, who we cheer as the club is theirs and they keep our music flowing, Jelli who'd be lost without a yay, and Josie who has enquired about building a cupboard at the club, strange girl So I chose avies over mod sounds but it was fun and I had a great time. The crowd at the AAi is eclectic in its taste, fractious and humorous and very friendly; And thankfully no rezzing issues tonight so every avatar was wearing trousers and there were no bum cheeks chilling in the cold. Virtual it may be but sympathetic, err nope just l;ike real life first rule of friendship ,,, take the piss. Savages, hahaha!

On Thursday I went for the ha trick, three nights in a row as I logged into Soul Mods to hear Lupo's set. There was a good crowd and a few people dropped in from the OSR which was cool. Its great when crowds from different clubs integrate I like the OSR they have great DJs but sadly most of its nights clash with other things so I don't get there as much as I'd like too. But, I digress, its a bad habit I possess. Back on topic, another great Soul Mods night Lupo played great tunes, Slate confessed to and Alvin Stardust finger fetish, Albion was outed as a girl; hmmm feck that means me I better lose some weight and buy a wig . Not that I'm a narcissist are anything but are forty  seven year old women sporting a No2 cut deemed as being attractive? So the usual craziness in the chat lines, me sober on cough remedies failing miserably to engage with the virtual surrealism, but the tunes were good Lupo has a very different twist that's refreshing to here, I had a great time. Oops got me bra in a twist typing that last bit, how do these things function?

Final night was Friday and much as I enjoyed the previous sets Fridays was something special. Eden was on decks at Soul Mods, a small crowd but they were treated to some awesome tunes that hard my heart pounding. Lots of Hammond to keep me buzzing and tunes that were standards but new interpretations or just outright new to me. As Slate commented it was a treasure trove of tunes. Eden really shone on the track selection front, and all who were there had a marvelous time, magical set that I really really enjoyed myself. Dance animations were thrust into overdrive, while real feet were pounding to the beat and awful voices murdered the lyric, but wow did we all have fun!  We were even able to enjoy an impromptu scooter rally, the joy of Soul Mods is that Dugi didn't clutter the building with stuff so we do actually have room to rev around on our Slate built scooters, it all adds to the madness and the fun of the evening. To fully embrace a crazy night at Soul Mods you must get yourself a scooter. The Prodigal Son...

... made his first appearance at the decks of Soul Mods. Yes mod builder, clothes designer, and DJ - a real virtual Renaissance man - took to the DJ booth on Friday to entertain us . Anticipation was high, and we had been a tad cruel to the lad during Eden's great set on Thursday, he knew he had a lot to live up to and being good friends we were determined to make it difficult for him, err I mean easy, giving him lots of confidence boosting advice and not taking the piss. Luckily we failed and he succeeded brilliantly.

I was one of several who turned up to give support and have a fantastic time, not sure how supportive I was but I certainly had a damn fine time. There were a few of the OSR crew in attendance to give Slate a rousing welcome to what is hopefully the first of many Soul Mods gigs. The usual motley Soul Mods mods were in attendance plus a few other newer faces.  An eclectic mix who should have enjoyed themselves as the set had a little piece of everything, hard core Northern folk would have been happy as would mods and those with just a passing interest in the sixties scene. I was dodging that minx Josie who seems determined to get me into the cupboard at every opportunity. Its understandable of course as I'm bloody gorgeous, but I'm just not that kind of avatar. So ghosts beware if Josie suspects you're off making a brew she'll shove you into Dugi's workshop where he'll do wicked things to your pixels, especially if their large.

It was a lot of fun and we all seemed to be having a great laugh at each others expense, and despite the early technical difficulties, curse you Lindens, anyone who was churlish enough to say it spoilt things needs to get virtual more. Slate finished a great set with a Twisted Wheel memory trip playing a range of generic sixties tracks popular amongst the members of that legendary virtual club; before closing in classic style with the three before eight. Awesome, the calf is on the butchers block.

Happenings in the Virtual World

After spending yesterday trampling the Lakeland fells in the rain pursuing game I can guarantee that the virtual life is much easy on middle aged knees and feet. So I have slapped a Norman Wisdom film [yes that right film, not a bloody movie I'm a Brit not a blinkin' colonial, howdy you wonderful American folk love ya!! and I was brought up on films not on movie, on a Saturday morning I went to the pictures.s End of movie rant] on I-Player; grabbed a mug of coffee and thought I'd have a warble on my poorly neglected blog on the happening in the virtual world of mod. There's only about half a dozen of us but we have fun.

First off, I am back on Phoenix which makes Second Life much easier.And despite the lure of the post Stella sofa I have also managed to attend a couple of cool virtual events. Headed to the AAi and heard Kim play some cool ska and beat tunes. There was a good turnout of people there and we all had a great laugh whilst listening to some very cool tunes. Then I wandered out of my mod comfort zone and attend the AAi on a Wednesday for the indie night with Graz DJing. As there were a few of us cool virtual mods present Graz slipped the odd mod tune onto his play list to keep us sweet. I opted to continue with my new bowler look, faded jeans, boots and T-Shirt to ska stomp my way through the indie music night. Mods are adaptable y'know, virtual ones especially so.

Continued with the bowler hat theme on my return to Soul Mods where Eden was spinning the tunes, she looked kind of scruffy but we cant all be virtual fashion messiahs everyday can we. I went with a smart Madness look: crombie, two tone jeans boots and the Fred Perry. All the sharp geezers and girls were present and we heard some fantastic tunes had a great laugh and chilled away for a couple of hours. It had been quite a while since I had heard Eden deliver a set and the intervening gap has done nothing to dull her ear for a sharp tune. She played several and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, although Slate in hes "jam shoes" and Lupo just being Lupo sent me spiralling down the cool ladder, gits hahaha.

I stuck with this look through into Friday night at Soul Mods where DJ Tabs was ion the decks and blasting out some foot stomping Motown tracks. The tunes sounded fantastic the crowd seemed eager to have fun and we enjoyed a fourth night of great music in good company in the midst of the virtual world. Sadly the demands of the real world meant I cut short my stay at Soul Mods on the Friday night, which meant I missed out on Slate's rezz party at the OSR HQ. Hope they had a great laugh and listened to some awesome tunes, that's what the virtual life is for. So nothing much to comment on, the same jokes same people different tunes and fun all the way through. Lets keep it virtual and leave the hill walking to the young uns.

Big Night Out...

It was Soul Mods Friday with DJ Tabs, so I headed over and began grooving to some amazing great soul tunes. Sadly, there were issues occurring elsewhere in the house so I had to listen to some fantastic tunes while I was busy dealing with stuff in the house. This meant I was absent without Lindens, and Aston seized the moment to shove me into a cupboard. When the homeland issues were resolved I returned to Soul Mods where I found myself dancing away to silence but ... in a cupboard!

Next up I leaped on the OSR landmark and headed off to Boone's rezz day party, a lengthy all nighter with a host of DJs playing disco and funk. The club was jammed to the rafters with all the OSR regulars who were funking away in delirium; whereas, I was struggling with lag who sought solace in a corner. There were some fine tunes being played by DJ Divine and despite being too lagged to groove I was enjoying myself when phut! Crash, the new Phoenix viewer had kicked me out. Not such a Big Night after all ...

Cor blimey, these strange folk unable to teleport or change clothes in an instant, demanded I accompanied them to this place called a pub. There they made me quaff copious amounts of alcohol and called it a birthday bash, very strange and I had to walk home at the end. Strange times! Who knows what lies ahead in the week to come.

Monday Magic!

Its been some time since I have logged into the grid on a Monday and so I was wondering where to find some cool entertainment in the virtual world. Fortune smiled on me as I recieved a flyer from the OSR HQ giving me a heads up the Boonie was about to start his regular Monday night soul and funk sussion, so jumping on the teleport I swapped Doc boots, cut off jeans, brace and a Fred Perry for a more WSB style of jeans, cool Tacchini track top and chilled adidas trainers and took to the floor.

The OSR crew were in attendance on on fine form, the banter was good and the gestures were zipping off the keyboards. Superstar mod creator Slate McLeod was sporting his latest T-Shirt creation ... when will this geezer open a clothing store! And, also reminiscing over his mankini outing to the amusement of all, fortunately for all he seems to have retired this item, joy spread across the grid. Boone was playing some awesome tunes helping to mellow out the crowd and I was having a fine time, even if I was keeping quiet.while the fun rolled around me.

The OSR HQ plays some of the mellowest contemporary soul on the grid and its one of the coolest places to hang out on the virtual soul scene. Join the group and get the regukar flyers events are run most days, with either Boone, Divine, Josemari or several other members of the OSR DJ stable. Look out for there gigs across the grid, I'll be there as will the rest of this crazy cool crew ... I just lurve that alliteration!

Kings of Spin

As the election is in in full swing and the spin doctors are rife and shovelling their stuff across the media I figured I too would engage in spin; although I thought I would have a quick waffle about the Mod/Soul DJs that royally entertain virtual mods and soulies aross the grid, 

There are several virtual DJs focussing their sets on mod/soul tunes at the present time, and whilst the number of clubs seems to be in decline the number of DJs seems to be increasing. The healthy number of DJs can only be good for the scene as after all , fashion, scooters, club architecture are merely decorative features that hang off the crucial foundation of the scene ... the music!

Currently found playing at Soul Mods and the AAi  Edensky Cortes and Kimbereley Sixpence played one of the first mod sets I attended on the grid. Kim and Eden play some sharp tunes, lots of ska and beat bands alongside some classic soul and monster mod favourites from The Who and the Small Faces. Often found playing at the same clubs is Sean Bernheim, an esoteric style Sean plays some of the coolest tunes on the grid, its unstructured its unusual and its always got tunes that spiral in from the nether regions of mod.

Northern Soul plays a huge role in the virtual mod scene and there are a couple of notable DJs playing this classic style. Atop the Northern pile sits Baron Ansome who seems to possess an endless supply of Northern Soul stompers and sixties delicacies, he can be found plying his musical wares at Soul Mods and a few other select clubs, join his group to keep informed. Northern Soul at its best from the best. Thats not to say there are not other outstanding DJs pumping Northern Soul into the grid. Another great champion of the genre is Dragon Bogbat late of the Twisted Wheel and who can now be found at his new club Dragons Den, he plays a great blend of classic Northern Soul; check his club here its well worth the trip. Speaking of The Twisted Wheel, where essentially it all began and still a mod hub despite its reincarnations and heavy leather presence, it plays host to many DJs playing a variety of sixties inspired sets, check their DJ calender. A new DJ to their roster is Marcus Arkin who had his own club at Soul Suite but is now a regular at The Wheel, he also plays a mean selection of Northern Soul and is worth checking out.

One of the best and most eclectic DJs on the grid is Micio Braveheart who along with her partner DJ  JarvisMudhoney Blackheart, play awesome mod tunes over at the Good Mixer. Yet another DJ worthy of mention is Nero Basevi who plays a mellow brand of soul at his Fabulous Soul Club. The final piece of a majestic Japanese soul triumvirate is Fujiyama Yokosuka who also plays a very chilled set of soul. Alas because of time zone differences I do not get to hear these talented DJs as much as I would like too, but they are well worth checking if you can fit them into your virtual schedule.

Now for a DJ that is always on my schedule: Boone Blanco, more known for his soul and funk sets at the Original Soul Rebel Head Quarters, can often be found coming out of his mod shell at special events, club openings and the like. He plays a blend of generic sixties, Northern Soul and sharp mod tunes and its worth listening to, and he draws a friendly crowd wherever he plays. The OSR HQ also plays host to a stable of DJs who play a blend of soul and funk that is worth checking. On occassion you'll find master builder and scouse superstar Slate Mcleod spinning his Northern Soul delights, or mod classic and revivalist masterpieces. The geezer is mod hardcore, albiet with a dodgy goatee. Other DJs to check are the wonderful Divine Law who whilst not playing mod does play a rather fine blend of soul and funk .. so check it!

Another worthy of mention is Davey MacIntyre of the 5.15 Club who appears to have gone quiet of late, real life commitments maybe. He plays a great classic mod set: soul, sixties and revivaklist tunes and well worth a listen too.

Returning to Soul Mods for the final DJ worth looking out for is Tabby Galthie who has begun regular Friday night sets, wonderfel Motown and awesome Northern Soul appear to be stalwarts of her Friday night set and I'd advise people to get along for a great night out.

Undoubtedly I have missed other outstanding virtual DJs but as my virtual time is limited I am unable to check every DJ online so these are a selection of MY favourites, its not an objective DJ critique far from it its wholly subjective with me choosing to pump up the profiles of the DJs I like to listen to. The Mod/Soul DJ department seems healthy with many more on the grid than when I entered the virtual worl couple of years back, hopefully the crowds keep coming and the scene grows from stength to stength. But DJs need clubs and there appears to be a decline in the number of viable Mod clubs hosting events, hopefully a recovery is on the horizon. Many events clash which means I cant get to everything I want to but rather that than a return to the spandex Friday and endless steams of US inspired insipid soft rock. So rejoice in our Mod Soul champions and dance til your feet burn, oh and Mods please lose some of the leather you look like a greaser mate, hahahaha.

There were a host of DJs entertaining us on the Bank Holday over at the OSR HQ, soul in all its many forms was on display as the DJs played great tunes from the early evening way into the early hours. 

9-11am : DJ BOONE - Funkin' U Up!

11am-1pm :  DJ DIVINE - Movin' & A-Groovin' Y'all!

1-3pm : DJ Slate - Classic Cool & Funky!

3-4pm : DJ Jose - Stonkin' Fave Raves!

4-6pm : DJ Hbomb/DJ Seth - Funky Latin Grooves!

Beleive me, it gets no better than this!

* MUSIC IS THE KEY OF LIFE - AND OSR IS GONNA PLAY IT! *

So I rolled up nice and early to hear Boone open up the entertainment and discover beers in the fridge and burgers on the grill. The party had begun the question was would I last the pace? The usual jovial atmosphere was very evident as the OSR mob begain to gather, nut it hit new levels when somebody outed themselves as a mankini admirer, oooh hamster hammocks indeed! So the brewing of a fine time was there, great music, wonderful people and huge portions of laughter ... marniate in strong ale and pretty soon its a fully baked groove. Once Boone had delivered his set the delicious ladty of the decks stepped for and DJ Divine took over, a real hunny bunny she entertained us royally and kept the music pounding and the party swinging.

We were four hous in as Divine stepped away from the decks and it had been wonderfully entertaining, the DJ tag team brawlwers then unleashed a double barrel of Northern Soul as Slate stepped up to carry on the baton [yeah mixed metaphors but really, do you care that much ... I doubt it.]. He had the poolside in full overdrive as he blasted out some great tunes, so great he even recieved a 1000L$ tip. Mentioning no names but thats true generousity, a deed worthy of Slate himself ...

Real Life then grabbed me for a while, but I left Albion grooving as a reminder to get back in. I'd left to scouse tones and came back to a latin accent that didnt sound like it was from Bootle so I surmised Slate's set was completed. More great soul poured out as Jose kept up the high standard and the Guinness can pile grew higher until finally it was the pumpkin hour and I wussed out. Yeah, as HBomb took over at midnight I admitted defeat and slid off to my bed, but I am convinced he continued with the impressive tunes that featured throughout the evenuing.

A great night of gridline fun, fabulous music supported by a wonderful cast of characters, so get on your scooter and check the next one. Just make sure you possess more stamina than I do.

Poolside Soul

Sunday night, little happening in the world so I logged on and headed over to the OSR HQ Pool Party, what a bounty of pixelated flesh on display. Sadly I missed the dreamy DJ Divine's set but was on time to hear Boone lay down some smoth vibes, but had to leave before Seth hit the turntables ... the demands of life outside of the grid.

So, donning my funkiest swimwear I joined in the groove and began dancing to some smooth soul ...

 

I think all of the OSR regulars were in attendance, friendly as ever and hugely welcoming to the waifs and strays who found themselves wandering into the soulful pool party.

I have also been mellowing out to my I-Tunes, and pondering over how I can sustain a mod theme through the blog with so many club nights clashing and other clubs on the brink it appears of shutting theuir doors. Love my Soul Mods nights but must get a tad tedious reading about the same events all the time. I can only make so many Scotney jokes before it wears thin. Therefore I might leave off the club nights for a while unless it a spectacular and just make the occassional fashion note when I have some lindens to spare. A lot happening in real life which is also keeping me out of the virtual world and leaving me with little time, I have already badly let down the Moonletters blog and failed to keep making a weekly post; maybe the mod life needs a wee rest to see how things shape up. Still be looking cool, stll be chatting and dancing ... just maybe no longer blogging the minutia of it all for a spell, keep the faith!

Its good to be Back

Ah it felt good to be back at Soul Mods after my self imposed [should that read health rather than self]  exile. Eden was on the decks blasting out some fabulous tunes, all credit to her for delivering time after time; its easy to forget the DJ has another life outside of the virtual world that places demands on their time so was great to see half of our top modette DJ crew still firing on all cylinders and delivering a ripper of a set.  I missed the other half who played last week. The regulars were in attendance, Scotney Sean my funnier but uglier alter-ego, our fantastic hosts Aston and Dugi; skankster DJ Kim, superstar dancer Josie and the Northern virtual legend that is the Baron, plus others who drifted in to check the awesome sounds. We may have been small in number but the music was pounding the chat was loud and the fun was electric. Yeah thats it atmosphere, stuff your traffic, your popvox crap its the atmosphere a club has that imbues it with that sense of style thats appealing: the music the people [yeah avis are people too y'know] the chat that create the atmosphere that defines a club and Soul Mods just melds with my virtual senses perfectly. Thats why I always have such a great time!

Another club where I always have a great time is the Original Soul Rebels HQ, and I popped over there once Eden finished her set whilst I closed down a few techno things and got ready to bid the virtual world goodnight.

Theyt had a new DJ on the decks, yeah OSRHQ stalwart Seth was laying down some smooth contemporary soul and some masterful classics. I think its early days at the decks for Seth, but judging from his tune selection he is definitely going to collect a crowd, some blinding tracks kept me well happy as I plodded on with business whilst Albion ripped up the dance floor. Agood crowd at the club enjoying some great music and fine times, I'm unsure if there is a better contemporary soul club on the grid, if there is one I'd like to visit it. My stay was brief but a blast, not really a solid contempoary soul fan I'm always enlightened by my visits here and was great to hear some storming soul standards...keep on marchin' on!

Christmas at OSRHQ

Headed out early tonight so not to miss the Original Soul Rebels HQ Christmas party with DJ Divine on the decks. What a blast cool costumes galore, I mean Boone's afro probaby deserves a blog all of its own, great that everyone got into to it and came along in so many fabulous costumes.  I was utterly flabbergasted,, as there were so many slimmed down santas I thought I was in Desperate Housewives the Christmas Movie!! Enough twaddle, lets get to waffle.

A fabulous night, even though sadly I was in and out, but listening continually even if I wasnt participating. The OSR crew come up with the coolest gestures and all love the music and are eager to share that feeling, its a soul boys or mods paradise and I feel lucky to get into the glow of it all,,and urge you all toi hop on their funky soul train and let it shine on through.

A DJ Divine set full of classics and things with a Yuletide flavour an ideal set for a virtual Christmas party. The dancers were fully engaged with the tunes and revelling in the funky party atmosphere. Absolutely marvelous, only sorry I had to leave early, but the demands on a virtual mods time are ever increasing...

Fortunately the party was still in full swing when I tp'd back so I was able to get back with the groove and chill in good company til the midnight hour. Boone was in the hot seat and playing some great souled out Christmas blockbusters,,I had a great time, and judging by the laughter and smiles on show so did those lucky enough to be there for the entire party shift. Check out this club, its well worth the trip.

Sunday night on the grid

Dropped in on the OSRHQ last night for an hour of sultry soul delivered by Cool Jonesford who is a new name to me, but he played some fantastic soul tracks. Barry White, Booby Womack et al late on a Sunday evening is not a bad way to slide off to sleep my friend.

The majority of the OSRHQ family of friends were present, there's always absentees such is the nature of the virtual world and its relationship with real life,which can often be a fraught one. Its always fun to hang out with these guys, they laugh and joke and care for each other which is cool, everyone is welcomed with open arms and so long as you enjoy the music and get with the beat its drama free and I advise visitors to keep it that way!

When the soul set was over I hopped on a tp and jumped over to Davey MacIntyre's 5.15 Club, it was very quiet there but Davey was spinning a few cool grooves and the chat was good, so it was well worth hopping over there. To have a great club you need cool people who make you laugh: whether they be few or many, so long as your laughing your in virtual heaven.

Again I was only here briefly but long enough to hear some cool tunes and crack a few jokes, dancing laughing and mocking..a night out with the virtual mods,,Britain's on the march beware.

Thats [a week of virtual] Entertainment

Does it make me dull that I follow a pretty standard timetable of clubs throughout my virtual clubbing nights out? Answers on a virtual postcard.

Its Monday night so I'm at Original Soul Rebels HQ to catch Boone Blancos set which is generally a glorious soulful education, I am hearing stuff here most times I wouldnt, a lot of stuff I'm familiar with but then the odd unheard gem comes spiralling through the stream. Yeah if you want to funked to the core of your soul this is the place to be.

But life isnt always sweet, so while Albion danced his feet off I was actually elsewhere in that strange environment Real Life, ahh well scanning the chat log it looked like I had a good time and there's always next week.

Rolling into Tuesday and it my first instalment of DJ divas Eden and Kim as they skank through two blindin' sets at the AA <))) Alternative Indie Club. Eden played the first hour with Kim finishing off the two hour set, plenty of soulful mod and skanking ska to get the bouncing crowd dancing. Except for Scotney Sean of course who never dances in the virtual world, but does a mean kilted highland fling in Real Life, or so I was told by ..err cough cough. And that brings me to this weeks instalment of Sean sentence:

"Bath salts are the way forward!"

Oooooh there you go a little bit of  philosophical bath water from our resident Scotney guru. And, still the crowd danced on...

Some great tracks and a fun fuelled couple of hours, mod is growing across the grid and this regular gig lies at the heart of it. The wonderful Small faces finishing off the night in magnificent style, even without the majestic Brian!!

I also popped over to the MERSEY SIDE CAVERN for a brief visit, and heard a few groovy tunes whilst I brewed a hot choc and got myself sorted to log off, some nice sixties tunes wafting over the airwaves as I sorted myself out.

So, Tuesday is also put to bed, I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Wednesday started better than expected, Ilogged back on to find myself in the midst of a sixties set in the Cavern being streamed in by a cowboy DJ Sergio- hey he had a stetson a a Yankee accent thats cowboy enough for me. So, I leapt to it put on my dancing shoes and hit the floor to boogie on to some cool sixties tunes including my favourite Byrds track, nope not Mr Tambourine Man but the sublime 8 Miles High, ahhh simply divine.

What did you think of the smooth DJ like typed segway, yeah because Wednesday is a funking soul night led by the delicious Miss Divine over at the Ruins.

Its difficult to beat a sunset ruins with some awesome tracks oozing out of the stream, whilst surrounded by the friendliest funkiest geezers and geezerettes [is that a real word? I think I just made it up] on the grid. Hurling gestures, laughing, lapping up the tunes and just having fun,,everything a virtual life was created for. Oh no I'm singing as I type ,,"i wanna dream about you babeee" its not a pleasant sound,,,,,but I'm having a ball. The awesome tunes kept falling out of the stream one after another, while we danced on and on...blissful.

Mods need a house full of soul and it is here in the bucketfull.

And, to top it off the wonderful Maddie gave me my own gesture how cool is that! Yeah this virtual mod life is truly good for the soul, and thankfully full of soul too.

Then on to Thursday, no guessing required. Its a Thursday which means only one place for me to be,,,Soul Mods Mecca, reeling from some straight shiooting from DJ Kim and Eden who'll be firing some red hot mod down their two smoking barrels,,,no room for blanks in a the blazing heat of a mod bonanza.

Somewhat blurry eyed I sat through my new copy of Quadrophenia , delivered by those lovely Amazonians, whilst Phil Daniels and Franc Roddem warbled along with their commentary; I then bunged in the documentary disc and watched that too...ideal preparation for a night of modernist mayhem at Soul Mods Mecca, a true highlight of my virtual week.

Rezzing into the sim late I miss the fun of the 9.00pm sim reboot ; a great way to start the night, and have to do some tping and relogging to drag myself out of the grey; which I succeed in doing only to condemn mein hosts to a Brigadoon existance for the duration on my viewer. This meant Dugi and Aston were no more than balls of mist, was it worth their sacrifice for me to look good,,,obviously it was. Being a ball of mist didnt stop them dancing or having a great time, it takes more than a trip to Brigadoon to keep these mods off the dance floor.

Eden opened up the set and played some stormers, despite Virgin attempting to tear her down; and she was followed by Kim who hit the ground running with a monstrous version of "If I were a Carpenter" by the Four Tops that had Dugi swan diving like there was no tomorrow...man that track blew us all away. The two girls delivered again and had us foot tapping - room stomping; while we discussed the finer points of Wellerdom. Yeah, the modfather raised his head this evening and we rabbited on like kids in the playground, and y'know what it was great. Like minded people, having a bit of fun listening to magnificent tunes whilst slurping on a brew..life is fine my friend, life is fine.

Friday arrives and after a shout from Boone Blanco via the OSRHQ group i find myself at Funk-O-Rama, now I hope that SURL works as I often find myself in a huge German commercial district, check it in search and you'll hook a lm there. Come enjoy some great music and listen to Werner and Boone funk duelling. Its a stylish build with great music an ideal start up before you head off in search of a whirlwind of virtual entertainment. As for me, it was time to don a tux [that nice one from Blaze,] and head out to CZ Estate Ballroom  for lady Divine's late night funk set.

It was a party atmosphere at CZ Estate Ballroom with many of my favourite Second Life people present, santa hats and antlers were everywhere as the grids funkiest groovers danced into the midnight hour. Divine played a wonderful set, that had me singing out loud , and my feet tapping until i even had a small twirl around the study,,yes I'm afraid I couldnt resist,,just "Feel the need in me"

Dugi and Aston insisted on this shot to prove they're more than ,,,,,cheeky sod that Albion geezer!

The music and the people were just what I need and what a fantastic way to end five days of virtual entertainment. Mods from across the grid began to tp into the ballroom to enjoy a nights spectacle of soul and funk. Boone took over from Divine around 11pm and I proceeded to murder another beautiful track with my strangled vocals, while the gestures rattled the airwaves: ~*LUPO*~ ~*ASTON*~ ~*DUGI*~ yeah the old crowd were stomping up a storm and it was a pleasure to watch and be a tiny part of it. Ive met some great people through these mods nights and many were here to enjoy this rollocking good time.

As for Saturday, thats locked down with the opening of the 5.15 club, mods galore.

Whats Occuring....

Wednesday night found me dancing up a storm at the Pathfinders Ruins, with DJ diva Divine spinning the wax on the decks. A host of known soul revellers were in attendance as this cool gig is an offshoot of the successful soul nights at the  Original Soul Rebel Head Quarters (aka OSRHQ). Everyone is welcome to these nights, yeah everyone even vampyres, and the friendly soul funksters do their best to make you feel part of the gang. The music was awesome, we listened to some old skool rap, tremendous funk and breath taking soul..but sadly no Wham which left one soul boy in floods of tears...I wont name him and expose his shame, he needs his composure to get wed tomorrow ,,,oops! haha.

So, yes the jokes were flying out as fast as the great tunes were sailing in, awesome music and great people thats what the virtual life is all about,,so keerp it drama free.

I enjoy these soul and funk nights out they're a laugh and a chance to hear stuff that I probably would not generally come across, plus I get to reaquaint myself with stuff thats sat lost on my I-Tunes while newer stuff gets played. Yep ,old tunes are like old toys lost at the bottom of the toy box, always getting replaced by newer shinier ones..awww. So, it was excellent to hear tracks by Grandmaster Flash and others hit the airwaves. A strong set delivered some pounding sounds and the crowd lapped up the heavy dance vibe and seemed to get higher with every song, a virtual melody of soul appreciation. In real street, if your hear has a beat, this music will affect your feet,,,and yes mine were rolling all over the shop.

Its a great way to spend a Wednesday, I urge you to check it out.

Thursday BBC1 9pm...Gavin and Stacey lift off.

Which meant I was late for my regular Thursday night apponment at the Soul Mods Mecca, undoubtedly the best mod club on the grid. Kim was at the decks all night and played a storming set that had everyone out on the floor. The music is all that matters here: no sploders, no shops, no irritating pop ups its just a club for the people who want to be there and dance , following in the traditions of the lamented but not forgotten Twisted Wheel [the OSRHQ pursues a similar policy]. This frees the club from endless lag and allows the people to rezz and dance, except for the odd few stalkers who prowl around, but we know they're dancing at home inside their heads, so they count too.

There were some newcomers to the club who were delighted to discover its musical charms and chilled atmosphere, the reputation of the club and its resident DJs grows with every outing, and I sense the club under the skilled management [ie run for that right reasons] of Dugi and Aston will flourish. Anyway enough kow towing to the bosses, haha. And welcome to the Seany sentence. Yes in my little waffle about the club I have decided to do a regular special feature dedicated to my chief blog lover, yes Scotney Sean This weeks Sean sentence is:

Hey I never said it was going to be philosophical or erudite, but more from the Seany sentence next week and if you have a Seany sentence you'd like to add...write yer own bleedin' blog, or IM if your nice.

It can be a touch mental at the Mecca and if you dont get British humour you might get lost in the whirl of gestures and chat, but its wildly funny extremely friendly and well worth a TP on a drizzly Thursday night in November I also had a nice chat with the lovely Shauna Skye who has a long standing blog which is well worth a look at, its in my links on the right: Moonletters. So yes I had another good night, could even say it was crackin'.

Its DJs and clubs like this that drags me back to the grid, friendly crowds awesome music and inspirational fun, I sometimes forget I'm um um and think Im 17 again, on my lime green Rally 200 riding down to the Steelworks pub to sit and talk scooters, listen to the Jam or some soul and forgot at 7am I'll be back building submarines again. Yeah these clubs are that good,, full of the euphoria of youth, just virtual this time around, you cant beat it.so if your virtual I encourage you to click on the links on the right get on that SURL and enjoy yourself.

Monday Magic

Monday night, bugger all on the television so where better than Original Soul Rebels HQ, enjoying some awesome soul and funk streamed to you by DJ Boone.

George Duke is the featured artist, to be frank I'd never heard of him, and that's what is so cool about these Monday sets DJ Boone Blanco introduces you to tracks and artists you've not heard before, its great!

The club was brimming with cool funksters eager to stretch out and dance their way through the evening. The usual soul crew in attendance, the wicked gestures and awesome set choice make this a highly entertaining night on the grid and I encourage you to seek it out and join in the fun,,,or should that really be the funk.

An unusual night tonight as, it was somewhat devoid of the fair female flesh. Face modster Slate and his blushing bride Maddie tie the virtual knot on Friday; and so, Maddie and squirreled [that should really say rabbited] the girls away for a crazy night as Bunny girls on the razzle. This meant the room was full of hairy blokes, a hetro gay bar, a new concept maybe. Anyway the music was good and everyone had a great time, what more can you hope for.

Soul on a Monday

Finally had time to log on through the week and attend one of the highly popular soul nights at the Soul Rebels HQ. There was a healthy crowd in attendance and DJ Boone played a superb set of sophisticated soul tracks, to keep them happy. Delirious on solid soul I stepped out with a few new animations I picked up at 3FX so if your looking for moves to match the cool tunes take a look.

The Soul Rebels HQ is a chic build, with some awesome art work, the music lies at the heart of it though and it draws a devoted crew to its dance floor to stride out to some quality tunes. Boone Blanco and Divine Laws appear to split the DJ roster between them [if there are others forgive my ignorance] and both masterfully stream some sweet soul sizzlers into the club. This is not a raging Stax, Motown, Northern Soul night, the music has a more contemporary feel. Bathe in it and let it wash the harsh realities of real life away. Put your feet up and chill while the stress of the day fades away.

Slurping a hot chocolate [not very cool that is it, hmmm] I let Albion funk up the dance floor while I followed my own advice, I put my feet up and chilled. Dim the lights and wriggle your bottom to some scintillating soul,,Second Life Soul is thriving and its a joy to be virtual. Get into the groove, keep it smooth and slip on over for a chilled night on the grid.

Taking the Right Path

Friday might is a funky soul night at Pathfinders with soul DJ Divine Law, who plays a sharp blend of the delicious heart sinking soul and funk. Its another good night out for the mod on the grid looking for some entertainment and soul enlightment, taking me out of my northern cocoon and exposing me to great new tunes.

There is good crowd of regulars in attendance, from the crew at the Original Soul Rebels HQ who dance the night away to some chilling music. It is definitely worth putting on your diary list as a cool night of scinterlating soul delivered by the divine DJ Ms Laws. So if you enjoy soul music its definitely worth seeking out.

Souled Out.......

...to the rhythms of ska, Northern Soul, sixties beat music and the neoMods of the eighties and beyond?

Looking to find a suitable place to lay your hat; perhaps the Original Soul Rebels HQ can fill a void. When I visited the floor was heaving in celebratation of a Mod birthday, for an SL face and scooter creator. The music was sounding awesome a wide range of beat bands with the odd soul track thrown into the mix to spice it up.

The art work on the club is wonderful, but the architecture and general feel is more airport lounge than thrusting club, bit of a dissapointment. Ignoring the insipid structural flaws the sounds were stunning the DJ really knew how to string a set of tunes together and the enthusiastuic dancers bayed and hooed for more and he served up a cracking set on a platter. I thoroughly enjoyed it as did everyone else there.

So should you add the venue to your Modernist list?

Well the night I asttended was a party, but the DJ is a regular and it was worth going to hear his set. Give it a whirl. I'll be trying it out again soon.
