As these are so easy to knock out, requiring little creative input and the technical ability to cut and paste and little else here is the inevitable PART THRE. The tunes today are from another mod compilation on my I-Tunes. Yeah I really do spend all day listening to music and hammering the keys. If only.......

And so to the fashion, I reckon if you dump the hood (cowl) this should provide an excellent 2Tone inspired track jacket but wow that cubist pattern certainly phases the eyes if you stare at it too long, sharp!

So, that is this one done, quick sharp possibly very dull, but if somebody finds it of some little use its served its purpose. Besides its economy of effort I'm blogging whilst remaining ostensibly idle, perfect. Therefore, part three is obviously inevitable.

I was looking through the Marketplace [where else, I might as well set up residence in there] the other day when I saw a rather sharp looking rain coat. It was very much in the style of the thirties detective trench coat, I thought it looked kind of French. After thinking of capturing a snap and blogging it as a random fashion piece I changed my mind and bought it. Some might view it as not authentically mod and label it Albion's flasher mac; but, I stand by my original judgement and believe matched with the right clothes it has a very sixties European vibe pulsing through it.

The coat comes with both a jacket and shirt layer, which provides scupe for a little tinkering should you choose to. The prim cuffs and collar are a nice addition and all fit my avatar shape beautifully without the need for a touch of modifying. The texturing on the coat is very nice with no obvious flaws. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and glad I added it to my mod wardrobe. Matching it with some brown Armidi trousers, a brown button down shirt from the Unknown Boutique and some nice brown shoes from FKNY I think it achieves a very cool French mod look, I'm certain Alan Delon* would be proud to look this sharp! Despite early doubts once the coat is worn with other classic mod styled items it becomes a very mod look in a traditionalist sixties style but also with NeoMod features. For a single item its not a cheap throw away costing just over three hundred lindens but it does provide a neat sharp look and an altwernative to the leather coat or parka that dominate the virtual mod scene. Be seen to be different on the scene if you want to catch the eye, its a truth y'know.

I often wake up early and bored, put the kettle on and click on my I-Tunes to idle away an hour or so listening to some cool Mod tunes, presently this is playing off a neat sixties compilation:

Tunes established I then have to decide how I'll fill in a bit of time sat at the computer screen; sometimes, I head off to the Second Life Marketplace as I've done this morning. Often during these trawls through the fashion morass I see items that I would not buy but perhaps have a degree of mod fashion potential, but I never list them as I dont purchase them. Therefore, this morning I figured I'd kill several birds with a single stone: I'd put up a lengthy post without actually having to type much at all. Also, I will highlight a few mod items that normally would not get blogged and also I'm not required to spend any lindens. So I have basically grabbed the snapshot of the item from its page at the marketplace and then added the link to the item below it. I neither recommend nor do I advise against purchase so the choice is yours I'm merely acting as a conduit into your lindens wallet, and all for free....are you listening designers, hahaha.

Its a very nice item and has a classic sixties feel wrapped up in a more contemporary style. As with most virtual coats and jackets it comes with prim sleeves, collar and hem. Its a simplistic design, and looks good as a mod item, especially a revivalist piece and is well worth seeking out, good quality free stuff should never be overlooked.

Its a unisex item and as with all prim items a bit of tweaking may be required [I only needed to slightly move the collar so it fit better] but that's hardly a difficult task, I mean I can do it so it cant be! A nice addition to your wardrobe go grab one, but leave it a while  so I look individual for a while longer, hahaha.

I have been out repeat buying again, as I grabbed myself yet another parka, that must make five of them hoarded away in my wardrobe now. This particular one was found whilst trawling the Marketplace looking for anything remotely mod amidst the mountains of fashion drivel that pours into the virtual world daily. Touted as a Gallagher Parka I surmised it must have its roots in the new real fashion range by the younger Gallagher Pretty Green, so I was intrigued to see how it would translate into virtual fashion design. On the whole its a very nice item, plenty of variations, plenty of well constructed prim work, hood up or down options; a heavy mod motif or a plainer option all very good. However one blot on the landscape is the rather shoddy work on the jacket layer that means my shirt constantly shows beneath the parka where it is meant to meld into the prim hood. No matter how much i tweak the hood I cannot correct this fault, most irritating on a 300l$ plus item. So a great item marred by a slight lapse in concentration, is it worth the 300plus? Hmmm with so few classically mod items on sale for men its a definite contender and I'm content if not ecstatic with mine. It looks good in the right pose and helps with your cool rating so why not give it a try?

The parka comes in a range of colours and in male and female versions, so options for everyone, being a traditionalist I opted for green but as a Britpop mod I guess you can choose whichever colour suits.

Soul Mods this week

Two great nights at Soul Mods, great DJs lots of people having fun and awesome tunes, who could ask for more?

Teleported into Soul Mods on Thursday into the midst of a Lupo fest, as the Madrid mod magician was weaving a web of sublime tunes for all to enjoy. Lupo's set always have a neat twist to them, some well known track that's covered by somebody unexpected, its always a joy to listen out for them. His DJ chat is cool and full of information on the tracks he is playing, and worth listening too. But, its the tunes he plays that are the real stars, and he flooded a very full Soul Mods with them on Thursday. It was one of the biggest crowds I'd seen at the club since its opening, and all were there to hear great music, have fun and a few laughs. The chat line was buzzing and as well as typing the odd profanity I was having a ball.  A truly great night and one to log into the legendary Soul Mods diary. Great night and much appreciated that Dugi and Aston keep this place going for the benefit of all us virtual mods.

When I logged on I had a quick chat with Dugi; he explained he was unsure of what was happening as regular Friday DJ Tabs was still absent, away on holiday I think. So it looked like it was heading towards a quiet night with the radio and a few laughs. Luckily Slate graciously agreed at extremely short notice to step up to the plate and entertain us. Slate plays my kind of set, steeped with eighties revivalism, sixties classics and a good dollop of Northern Soul. The tunes were great and I enjoyed them all. A great crowd turned up including the missing Scotney Sean, who prowled and threw the odd commentary bone our way. Was good to see him back altho I look forward more to seeing him on deck blasting us with some amazing tunes, get yourself sorted mate, lol. The banter was good, we discussed Weller and The Jam, a lot like the sad middle aged geezers we are, and enjoyed ourselves doing it. I sense a rash of "hey I'm not middle aged" comments but, if you remember the eighties err you are ... get over it. So I had two fine nights at Soul Mods, I even saw what some thought was drama,,at Soul Mods, surely not! Anyway had a laugh the tunes were good book me in Danno.

What made things even better is a few of the newcomers from Thursday turned up on Friday, including one who put my mod fashion champion status in doubt. Looking for a Weller style Bluenote wore a sharp coat with a neat shirt and sweater combination underneath. Very cool, very sharp, very mod. A great addition to the mod fashionista group I'll be stealing some of his ideas pretty soon, hey its good to be cool wherever it comes from. After all I've nicked half of Lupo's wardrobe. The more geezers there are out there looking FOR and purchasing the mod look the more likely designers will see it as a viable commercial opportunity and deliver more quality sixties styling. Sadly the philanthropic has been consumed by the strict commercial frenzy in Second Life retail and we have to coincide with it as best we can.

Anyway if your reading this and are an avatar in Second Life grab some mod attire and get over there, no drama [well rarely] and plenty of great tunes, plus a lot of good people laughing and having fun. No we're not odd just British ... mostly.

Happenings in the Virtual World

After spending yesterday trampling the Lakeland fells in the rain pursuing game I can guarantee that the virtual life is much easy on middle aged knees and feet. So I have slapped a Norman Wisdom film [yes that right film, not a bloody movie I'm a Brit not a blinkin' colonial, howdy you wonderful American folk love ya!! and I was brought up on films not on movie, on a Saturday morning I went to the pictures.s End of movie rant] on I-Player; grabbed a mug of coffee and thought I'd have a warble on my poorly neglected blog on the happening in the virtual world of mod. There's only about half a dozen of us but we have fun.

First off, I am back on Phoenix which makes Second Life much easier.And despite the lure of the post Stella sofa I have also managed to attend a couple of cool virtual events. Headed to the AAi and heard Kim play some cool ska and beat tunes. There was a good turnout of people there and we all had a great laugh whilst listening to some very cool tunes. Then I wandered out of my mod comfort zone and attend the AAi on a Wednesday for the indie night with Graz DJing. As there were a few of us cool virtual mods present Graz slipped the odd mod tune onto his play list to keep us sweet. I opted to continue with my new bowler look, faded jeans, boots and T-Shirt to ska stomp my way through the indie music night. Mods are adaptable y'know, virtual ones especially so.

Continued with the bowler hat theme on my return to Soul Mods where Eden was spinning the tunes, she looked kind of scruffy but we cant all be virtual fashion messiahs everyday can we. I went with a smart Madness look: crombie, two tone jeans boots and the Fred Perry. All the sharp geezers and girls were present and we heard some fantastic tunes had a great laugh and chilled away for a couple of hours. It had been quite a while since I had heard Eden deliver a set and the intervening gap has done nothing to dull her ear for a sharp tune. She played several and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, although Slate in hes "jam shoes" and Lupo just being Lupo sent me spiralling down the cool ladder, gits hahaha.

I stuck with this look through into Friday night at Soul Mods where DJ Tabs was ion the decks and blasting out some foot stomping Motown tracks. The tunes sounded fantastic the crowd seemed eager to have fun and we enjoyed a fourth night of great music in good company in the midst of the virtual world. Sadly the demands of the real world meant I cut short my stay at Soul Mods on the Friday night, which meant I missed out on Slate's rezz party at the OSR HQ. Hope they had a great laugh and listened to some awesome tunes, that's what the virtual life is for. So nothing much to comment on, the same jokes same people different tunes and fun all the way through. Lets keep it virtual and leave the hill walking to the young uns.

As the sixties progressed mod style altered severely, the sharp Italian influenced suits were replaced by more pop art inspired clothing. Carnaby Street shifted from sharp mod styles to poptastic flamboyance, as is often seen in period pieces filmed to reflect the changing times. An iconic Carnaby Street styling is the military dress jacket, preferably a chic Guardsman in vibrant red, or flamboyant Hussars; as the mods moved away from their style origins their fashion became more pop. But in the virtual world we can accommodate this playful pop style in our NeoMods fashion house; so I was happy to throw on a great vibrant red Guardsman jacket bought from WW2 and WWII; Military UNIFORMS which fits the mould of this period beautifully. The jacket comes with a sharp prim white belt, military trousers and prim epaulets, there are also some prim NCO rank insignia and prim cuffs for the jacket. For anyone hoping to capture that swinging sixties Carnaby Street look but wishes to avoid flower power US inspired hippydom this is a good starting block

Next. some classic mod fashion from SubVersion. This beautiful brown suit is beautifully retro and suits the mod or NeoMod hoping to achieve that authentic '64 mod look. There is a host of variants with this suit, different shirts, waistcoats etc allowing you to tailor your individual look. But, I believe the basic brown suit with white shirt and brown tie is the best look for the virtual mod. The suit comes in a variety of colours, including a wonderful deep red [quick confession I wanted to buy the red but clicked the wrong icon duh! The brown is cool too though] which give plenty of scope for varying tastes: subdued grey, black or brown and wilder reds and blues.

Alongside the suits SubVersion also sell some fantastic sixties looking pea coats which are also available in a variety of colours, several complimentary to the suits they sell. Having bought myself a brown suit I opted to buy a brown coat. This too comes with several prim attachments: collar, cuffs, belt and a hat. Unfortunately the hat comes without hair and when I wore it my hair was removed so a little tweaking with your a\ttachment locations may be required to wear the hat; personally, I think the coat looks cooler without the hat. It blends magnificently with the trousers and shirt/tie combination from the  brown suit and screams sixties style, very French I feel and so classically mod. To continue with the brown theme I hopped over to Action store to grab a tan pair of their ultra-sixties styled Chelsea Boots. The boots are scripted to alter size making fitting them a breeze and they look great with this low key sixties styling - conservative but sharp, the epitome of  the original British mods.

The final offering is a chic black suit from a newly discovered store called Savile Row, there are several items in the store that have a retro sixties feel but to begin with I opted for this neat black suit labelled Berlin. It is not a traditionally mod design but it does have an authentic retro style and in the virtual world of NeoMods we strive to stretch the modernist fashion boundaries whilst staying within the limits imposed by our pop-culture roots, so no leather chaps and studs thank you!  Double breasted jackets are not generally a feature of mod fashion but this germanic styled jacket oozed generic sioxties appeal so I succumbed and bought it; ok not strictly mod but like I said we can be flexible in the virtual world and its definitely sixties. Modernist Fashion in SL

Yum yum a new mod fashion item to blog about. Synonamous with mod fashion is the green parka; there are several available in second life which have been blogged here; but there is always scope for variation. So, when I read the Fade to Grey blog post on a new parka I eagerly sought it out. One of the issues with the brilliant but prim heavy Aoharu parka was getting the prim items to fit the smaller vavatars of the modette. Ostensibly I think the parka was designed as a male only item and this created difficulties for the modettes who bought one. Hopefully there should be no such concerns here as the parka comes in both male and female versions. However, as I loaded up the prim hood on my version I noticed a flaw in the design that left the top of my white T-Shirt exposed. The green jacket under layer was not cut high enough to block the white T-Shirt with a blanket of green and despite extensive position with the prim hood/collar I was unable to satidfactorily position it to block out the T-Shirt and still retain all the elements of the prim attachment. I do wish female designers would bring in a range of male body shapes to try out their designs on as many prim attachments are often too small for male shapes that tend on average to be rather large. I tried a smaller shape once and felt like a dwarf and so reluctantly followed the herd and stuck with my big shape.

But, enough of the gripes and lets put forward some positive comments. The dark olive colour of the coat is perfect, the styling of the coat is good too, although it lacks the classic fish tail that gave the parka its name. The hood collar combination is also a fine piece of work, despite my fitting grumbles, but it lacks a fur trim [also a fundamental element of the parka], the sleeves, pockets and other prim work are very nice and the parka has a very mod feel to it, despite my grumbling. And, despite my grumbling I like it and was happy to buy one. However, its not a cheap item at 380L$, so you may feel inclined to look elsewhere. For the modettes out there I would say its an excellent buy and there will probably be less fitting issues than with the male version; for guys wanting to look sharp its a good option but many could opt for a freebie version if its still available ... its just a virtual guy thing. In the end you pays yer money and takes yer chance; I like it yes its far from perfect but its still a cool piece of virtual mod wear and is now hung up alongside the other coats in my mod folder.

Crombie

I have spent several months searching the corners of virtual fashion hoping to locate a cool crombie overcoat. My initial purchase from Nordic Blasphemy was okay; in the shade it was a passable item, although the skirt layer was too small and the texturing on the coat varable. But the addition of a red prim pocket handhkerchief gave it a more creditable crombie feel. Worn with suitable Dr Martin boots and high cut skinhead jeans and a nice button-down shirt the coat was acceptable if not a stunning piece to add tro your mod warderobe. For, although synonymous with skinheads and rude boys the crombie latterly became absorbed into the eighties revival mod fashion as much of the ska skinhead influenced fashion did during that period. Therefore, its unsurprising that it should feature in a virtual mod fashion that is influenced by akll forms of modernist fashion to culminate in the NeoMod fashion philosophy of the twenty first century. Howver, whilst the crombie was functionable it did not satisfy my wish for an uber cool item that could be recognised as a crombie.

I tried other options including overcoats and also sheepskins which were fine but lacked the sharp mod feel of the crombie. Fantastic items in their own right they could not substitute for an authentic looking crombie. Then whilst browsing through X-Street I saw the westminster coat set from SF Design.

The image used to promote the coat caught my eye and whilst it too lacked the disticnt red pocket accessory, that could easily be resolved. So I splashed out 500 lindens and bought the coat, complete with a cool black suit, white shirt and scripted colour changing tie. Nice additions but the prize was the coat. Prum cuffs, a collar and lower half give the coat a depth the earlier coat lacked, the texturing is also far more consistant. As with all flex hemmed coat it can be a little hit or miss on how the coat hangs and combines with the layered partner but the coat has a good match and the size suits my avatar shape very well. Adding the jazz suit red handkerchief again makes the coat easily recognisable to virtual mods as a crombie. The addition of my GOS Docs and some high cuffed faded skinhead inspired jeans finished the look which i feel is uber mNeoMd despite its obvious seventies skinhead influence. As for the crombie style so far I have yet to find anything that can hold a candle to this particular item. Another fantastic piece of accidental mod design by SF Design

I have blogged this sale before but as it is still raging I thought I would give it another mention, so the fity percent sale is still raging at Dyn, go take a look!

The Dyn fifty percent sale is still running, so its well worth checking out this UK fashion stronghold a bastion for casual NeoMod clothing. Dyn sells a selection of cool shirts, sweater, polos and sportswear that all tilts its head toweards NeoModernist fashion. Some of their stylings are firmly based on real life fashion, indeed using the real life label in their branding, but they seem to be moving further away from this to create their own unique designs which are perhaps less modernist in concept and execution.

I grabbed these three Paul Smith influenced polo shirts in the sale, a bargain at 50L each; however, I would have prefered a shirt layer alongside the jacket layer to allow me to combine them with a corresponding v-neck sweater or a sharp jacket. This insistance on single layer fashion design can become quite frustrating for the dedicated mix and match modernist stylist. As for the items themselves they look great, neat NeoMod look with cool textures and a sharp stylish design ... I am happy with them despite my minor grumbling.

Another sharp real life item I recently picked up at Dyn was this uber cool Sergio Tacchini track top. A classic of the eighties casuals fashion wardrobe this white track top worn with jeans and my MK Adidas mamba trainers yells retro casuals fashion to anybody able to listen. Its a classic NeoMod combination of Britpop fashion duistain moulded onto eighties casuals styling. The neat feather cut styling of the hair plus the cool shades all combine with the well textured clothing to create a sharp Neo Mod look. Faded rather than pristeen denim looks better but the look can also be achievec with a dark denim but the jeans must remain quite a simple denim design if you hope to achieve the casuals retro look.

But it is not just copied textures from famous real life fashionistas that Dyn sells they have an ever expanding range of their own designs that at well worth taking a look at. One that particularly caught my eye was the short navy blue duffel jacket, neatly textured with a nice prim hood which I felt had an air of the NeoMod about it. Another jacket to be worn with jeans and trainers. Totally abhorrant to traditional retroist modernist in their sharp tailored suits I still feel such items have a place in the wider fashion stuylings of the NeoMod virtual style. Its a well crafted item and a slightly unusual look, and standing out dfrom the crowd shoyuld feature in anyb mods fashion criteria ... no wall flowers required thank you.

Amongst my favoured Dyn items are their range of sweaters, simplistic linear design with a modernist influence which lends itself fantastically well to either the retro sixties styling or the more contemporary [although thats nearly thirty years ago, so contemporary is a bit of a misnomer] casuals styling of the eighties. This simple tight v-necked sweater is an example of the latter, possessing its own label on the texture. The texturing and design look great, and worn with jeans and a suitable shirt its a classic piece of NeoMod styling.

I urge you to go check it out at the Dyn fashion house before they decide to end it. And while your there grab a few other items too, it all fleshes out your virtual mod wardrobe wonderfully.

Italian Masterclass

Finding classic virtual tailoring with a definite flair in a virtual male fashion world obsessed with ragged low rider jeans and T-Shirts can be quite a toil. For the mod looking for flamboyant sharpness wrapped in retro tailoring it can be difficult to locate the correct stylists in the virtual world. Fortunately there are a few designers who realise male fashion is not all about overt gay flaymboyance and brutal hetero ruggedness. One of the foremost male fashion houses producing items that are useful for the aspirant virtual mod is Sartoria. Its fashion muse is firmly grounded in classic Italian styling and they produce a wide range of beautiful suits thats should get any mod's wardrobe off the ground and running.. This wonderful black suit is a fine example of their creative powers. The texturing is delightfully done and it comes with a host of layers providing the versatility virtual fashion cries out for.The neat hankerchief in the breast pocket is a neat touch and gives the suit a classic early sixties retro vibe that is ideally suited to the modernist  seeking an authentic looking item for is virtual wardrobe.

Next is this magnificent leather coat, an essential for any ace-face virtual mod. Whilst the parka declares your mod status the leather coat defines you as a face amongst the crowd and thats the goal of every mod virtual or otherwise, fashion attention seekers to our very core. The texturing on this item is another piece of excellent workmanship and the three quarter length ideally suited for those seeking a retro classic. I've not purchased this item but if I was seeking another leather coat this item would be top of my list. 

Check out Sartoria, they ask a premium price for much of their work but they deliver in style and content, a good base for building your modernist wardobe.

First up is an essential piece of revivalist fashion, the cycling jersey which seemed to be evetywhere amongst young mods circa '81. The brasher and louder the better in cycling jersey design there is no roon for understated subtley, neither in real life or virtual; despite this, the rather wild and bold red spotty design of this cycling jersey may be too much for some. However, married to a pair of cool white jeans, some chilled shades and bowling shoes and I believe you have a great piece of modernist styling. Indeed I liked this look so much I opted to wear it on my return to the virtual mod scene after my week away. Come out of the grey shadows and adorn yourself in a splash of scarlet.

Another great item is the neat cardigan with a simple graphic stripe design, an ideal sixties piece for wearing over polo shirts with jeans. The bold green stripe and simple black trim are classic retro fashion devices and so work extremely well when attempting to cultivate your virtual mod look. Choose a solid coloured polo and wear the cardigan over it to give yourself a true sixties design. Wear jeans to accentuate the casual nature of the cardigan/polo combination with ideally a pair of iced deserts boots [and if you find some let me know] or failing that your trusty Jeepers Creepers bowling shoes. There is a second sweater that would be great for those modettes outt there or mods bolder than I in startling pink, pink suits are one thing and entire pink wardrobe is a shade too far, but it would be an exceptional piece for those modettes looking to dress down but still have a touch of colour, a bit of flash, whilst wearing denims and polom shirts and at less than a 100 linden your not crying yourself to the bank. A nice sharp relaxed sixties retro look that is easily achievable, so get one!

Next up, that casuals classic the sheepskin. Not a typically mod piece at all but as the NeoMods absorbed the retro, revivalist and offshoot styles the sheepskin has a place in the pantheon of virtual mod fashion. Reasonable for the price but I felt the prim collar was a touch small and required some serious editting, so although it looked ok in snaps as I moved it looked a tad disjointed. Overlarge male avi shapes lie at the heart of it but what can you do unless you want to look like a dwarf? Anyway, that slight criticism apart its a nice item and if your looking to develop your mod style along casuals lines this would be a good purchase.
